Installing Vehicle Packs
A vehicle pack is a vehicle someone else made: a .zip file, or a folder. A pack is not a mod: it does not go in mods, and it needs nothing else installed, only Vettura and Vextris (see Installing and Getting Started).
A pack holds only models, textures, sounds and settings files, no program code.
Where it goes
Packs go in the vettura/packs folder inside your game folder. The game folder is the folder your mods folder is in: vettura sits next to mods:
<game folder>/
├─ mods/
│ ├─ vettura-1.0.0.jar
│ └─ vextris-forge-1.20.1-0.1.2.jar
└─ vettura/
└─ packs/
└─ the-pack-goes-here.zipThe vettura/packs folder is made the first time you start the game with Vettura installed. If it is not there, start the game once and close it, or make the two folders yourself.
The game folder in common launchers:
| Launcher | Game folder |
|---|---|
| Official launcher | .minecraft (Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft) |
| CurseForge app | curseforge/minecraft/Instances/<profile name> (on the profile: "…" → "Open Folder") |
| Prism Launcher, MultiMC | instances/<instance name>/minecraft or .minecraft (right-click the instance → "Folder") |
| HMCL, PCL2 with version isolation (the default) | .minecraft/versions/<version name> |
| HMCL, PCL2 without version isolation | .minecraft |
Not sure? Open the mods folder with your launcher's button and go up one level: that is the game folder.
Installing
- Close the game;
- Download the pack: you get a
.zipfile; - Put that zip as it is in
<game folder>/vettura/packs/. Do not unzip it; - Start the game;
- In a creative world, open the "Vettura · Vehicles" tab: the pack's vehicles are there.
Packs are read once, when the game starts. After adding, replacing or removing a pack, close the game completely and start it again; going back to the main menu or rejoining the world is not enough.
Is it in right?
Open the zip (or the pack folder): pack.json must be at the very top, next to the vehicles, assets and other folders:
✔ Right
vettura/packs/
└─ coolcars.zip
├─ pack.json
├─ vehicles/
├─ assets/
└─ data/✘ One folder too many (the most common mistake)
vettura/packs/
└─ coolcars.zip
└─ coolcars/ ← this extra folder
├─ pack.json
└─ ...A pack with an extra folder is skipped, and its vehicles do not show up. To fix it: open the inner folder, select everything in it and zip that again; or just drag the inner folder into vettura/packs (a pack as a folder works too).
Other common mistakes:
| What happened | Result, and the fix |
|---|---|
The pack is a .rar or .7z | Not read. Unpack it and zip it again as above, or put the unpacked folder in |
The pack is in mods | Not read. Move it to vettura/packs |
It is in .minecraft/vettura/packs, but version isolation is on | The game reads its version's own folder: put it in .minecraft/versions/<version name>/vettura/packs |
| Two copies of the same pack (old and new) | Only one is read and the other is skipped, not necessarily the new one. Delete the old one |
The browser added (1) to the file name | No matter: the file name can be anything; what counts is the pack.json inside |
When a pack has a problem
- If a pack has a mistake in its files, the chat says so once you are in a world ("Vehicle pack xxx: …"), naming the file and what is wrong. The pack's other vehicles still work. Send that line to the pack's author.
logs/latest.login the game folder lists the packs that were read; search it forVehicle pack:Vehicle pack coolcars 1.0.0 (coolcars.zip): 3 vehicle(s): read, with 3 vehicles;has no pack.json at its top; skipped: one folder too many, see above;its id ... is taken by another pack: the same pack is in twice.
Updating and removing
- Updating: close the game, delete the old zip, put the new one in, start the game.
- Removing: close the game and delete the zip. The pack's vehicles already placed in your worlds do not disappear: without the pack they look like a T15 for now, and they come back as they were when you put the pack back.
Multiplayer
- Put the pack in the server's
vettura/packs/(the server folder is the one the server'smodsfolder is in) and restart the server; - Every player puts the same pack file in their own game folder's
vettura/packs/and restarts the game; - On joining, Vettura compares your packs with the server's and says in the chat if they differ:
| Message | What it means, and what to do |
|---|---|
| Vehicle pack xxx is on the server but not here | You are missing this pack, so you cannot see these vehicles. The message names the folder to put it in; do that and restart the game |
| Vehicle pack xxx differs from the server's | Another version, or a changed file. Ask the server's admin for the same file |
| Vehicle pack xxx is here but not on the server | These vehicles cannot be placed on this server. Nothing else is affected; to stop the message, move it out of your vettura/packs |
Server admins: share the exact pack files the server uses with your players; that goes wrong far less often than everyone downloading their own.
