Road Planner

A road laid in vanilla blocks has steps on every slope and right-angled corners. The Road Planner smooths such a road into even slopes and curves, so vehicles drive over it without a bump. It does not build roads from nothing: it reshapes a road you have laid, with the blocks already on it.

Crafting

Diagonally on a crafting table: 1 iron ingot in the top right corner, 1 stick in the middle and 1 in the bottom left corner.

Using it

Holding the Road Planner, the key hints at the top right of the screen change with what the crosshair is on. Left-click does not mine blocks while you hold it.

Slopes

Aimed at a step, the preview shows each block of the slope; blocks too steep (over 45°) are red. Several steps in a row (up to 8 flat blocks apart) become one even slope. A road can be up to 16 blocks wide.

Curves

Pick a start at the end of one road, then aim at the end of another road and build the curve. It is a smooth curve that leaves and joins each road along it; with the two ends at different heights it rises or falls smoothly between them. Below the curve the ground is filled in (up to 16 blocks down) and above it 3 blocks are cleared.

Materials

  • In Survival, slopes and curves take the road's own blocks. Above the preview grid a line such as "Needs Stone Bricks ×37 (have 52)" shows how many; with too few blocks only part is built.
  • What is cut away drops as blocks.
  • Removing a piece puts every block back as it was before.

Removing and mining

  • Road blocks it built can be mined one by one with a pickaxe or a shovel, like any block.
  • A curve cannot be changed in the middle: remove the whole piece (left-click it) and build it again.
