Driving

Getting in and out

  • Getting in: press Use (right-click by default) on a door to open it, then on a seat. The two cab seats need their door open; in the T15's bed you can sit too (on the wheel arches), no door needed.
  • Changing seats: while seated, press Use on another free seat.
  • Getting out: press Sneak. The vehicle must be almost stopped, and a cab seat needs its door open first; otherwise the key hints say "Stop first" or "Open the door first".
  • Getting out with the engine off, the driver pulls the key and takes it along.

The steering wheel

In the driver's seat, first press Use on the steering wheel to take hold of it. Only while you hold it do W, S, A, D and the gears work; press Use again to let go. With your hands off the wheel, a standing vehicle keeps its handbrake on.

Keys

The driving keys work only in the driver's seat; change them under Options → Controls → Key Binds → Vettura: Driving.

Gearbox

The T15 has a 5-speed manual gearbox with an automatic clutch: no clutch to work when pulling away, shifting or stopping. The gears go reverse, neutral, 1 to 5; R shifts up, F down.

A vehicle from a pack may be an automatic: in a forward gear it shifts by itself, R and F are the paddles, and a gear you pick by hand is held for a moment.

Transfer case

The T15's transfer case has three positions: 2WD (rear-wheel drive, for paved roads), 4WD (wet roads, grass, mud) and low-range 4WD (steep slopes and getting unstuck: very slow, a lot of torque).

Lights, wipers and climate

  • Headlights: H switches them on and off, holding H switches the high beam. At night they light the ground ahead.
  • Wipers: in the rain, water gathers on the windshield; the wipers clear what they sweep.
  • Climate: the heater only works once the engine is warm; the A/C makes the engine burn a little more fuel.

Camera

  • In a vehicle, F5 switches between first person and the chase camera.
  • With the chase camera, the mouse turns the camera all the way round the vehicle and the scroll wheel sets the distance; a moment after you stop moving the mouse, once the vehicle drives, the camera eases back behind it.

Gauges and the screen

  • The tachometer, speedometer, fuel and temperature gauges on the dashboard all work.
  • In a vehicle, the bottom left of the screen shows it from above: the body's colour is its durability, the four tyres show on their own, broken windows show as gaps. See Fuel & Damage.
